Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Jordan Huie, you are here at the Overtimer and tonight! We have the 2020 WWE Royal Rumble on our hands! The show proper begins very, very soon! As the pre-show is going on, we have much to look forward to! Two of the eponymous Royal Rumble matches are going down, as well as bitter grudge matches and title bouts! Including this one, which sees Becky Lynch defend the WWE Raw Women’s Championship against Asuka! I’ll be here to give you the live recap and results, as well as extensive previews!
WWE Raw Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Asuka
This one amazingly dates back a full year, to the 2019 iteration of the WWE Royal Rumble. Last year, Becky Lynch was the SmackDown Women’s Champion going into the annual event. There, Asuka was the challenger and somewhat surprisingly she ended up taking the title away from Lynch! Of course Becky would go on to force herself into the Women’s Royal Rumble match and won the whole damn thing.
In many ways, that night set her out on the journey that she’s currently on today.
But as we’ve come to learn in the past few months, even though she came out of the night triumphant, she hasn’t forgotten the loss that immediately preceded it. It was Becky that demanded this match happen, one way or another. She was harrowed by the realization that perhaps the WWE brass, who she’d spent so long trying to spite, were actually protecting her from Asuka by keeping her from getting a title shot.
Having become the golden goose, it would seem that now the higher ups in WWE really don’t want to see Becky Lynch take a loss. Atleast that’s her logic and it’s a pretty interesting story if I do say so myself, pretty easily the best built match on the card. And it sure has the potential to be a great one. But as damn good as this is and as well built a challenger Asuka is, it’s really hard to imagine Becky Lynch not going into WrestleMania with the women’s title. Especially since they already did the bit with her losing the title at the Rumble and winning the match itself later on last year! Becky Lynch avenges her loss here tonight.
