In an interview on Scottish wrestler Grado’s Wrestling Daft podcast Chris Jericho talked about AEW and the “Wednesday Night Wars” against WWE NXT. While Jericho and Grado made for an extremely entertaining listen, there was one gem that really stood out.  Chris Jericho On NXT  In discussing the ratings battles with WWE’s third brand, Jericho was confident of AEW Dynamite’s success. He summed it up to the NXT brand being minor league compared to AEW and that the Khan-owned promotion had star power behind it. Jericho cemented it by saying the NXT roster were “still unknown performers” and that the competition just wasn’t there for AEW.   The AEW…

Xavier Woods will be out of WWE action for anywhere between six months to a year with an Achilles tendon injury. The SmackDown superstar was injured on 10/20 during a tag match with Big E against The Rival in Sydney, Australia.  Xavier Woods on the Mend  With Xavier Woods out, that probably makes WWE’s job easier in deciding what to do with Kofi Kingston at the moment. The company definitely has plans for Kofi, you don’t put the belt on a guy who has been with your company most of their career, have them lose in record time, and just let them…

The news of NXT Japan keeps trickling in. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE wants to bring Japanese women’s wrestling legend Meiko Satomura as a trainer. This would likely be for if the NXT Japan project gets off the ground. If it doesn’t, Satomura would still make for a great trainer at the main NXT brand.  The Women’s Divisions Bids for NXT Japan  She made her debut within the WWE Universe during the 2018 Mae Young Classic. Satomura went through Killer Kelly in the first round of action, defeated U.S. women’s veteran Mercedes Martinez in a strong bout, and finished off Lacey Lane in the quarter finals. Her…

ROH World Champion Rush has been making waves since breaking into the U.S. wrestling scene in 2018 and has been a major highlight in the company this year. Now, details about his future status with the company have become news due to his contract coming to an end. A Battle of Dueling Contracts: ROH vs. MLW  Rush began wrestling in the states regularly in late 2018 first for MLW. It was through CMLL’s working agreement with ROH that Rush came in. His younger brother Dragon Lee had already started wrestling for the company in 2016.   Rush impressed quickly and already…

This week, our very own Jordan Huie reported that WWE was interested in picking up Pro-Wrestling NOAH. Wild news because the best time for WWE to scoop up NOAH would’ve probably been between 2010 and 2014 when it was pretty much going through the motions. NOAH would’ve been rebranded as NXT Japan possibly.  Well, “going through the motions” isn’t exactly the best term. There was a period when NOAH just wasn’t at its best. NOAH still held shows, there were still some dope matches, and it still had its dedicated roster. It was coasting basically.   NOAH At Its Weakest  At that time, New…

When AEW was launched, Cody Rhodes mentioned that the company would not be competing with WWE. Last week Shad Khan said that All Elite Wrestling isn’t competing with the WWE. Earlier this week, AEW World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Jericho also stated that AEW isn’t competing with the biggest promotion in the world.   As we all know, even though people inside the company say there is no competition fans are going to say it’s a competition. We’ve been conditioned to that since the Monday Night Wars and even when WWE had no competition and the product stagnated, we were still…

It might be a little early to heap praise onto NWA Power but the show has been off to a strong start. I’d say it’s a combination of being just one hour, the roster it’s working with, a studio presentation to the product, and how that presentation plays into building and fortifying stars.  Two Weeks Into NWA Power  Number one, I had forgotten that NWA Power was going to debut on 10/8. AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite had my attention that week. I was hoping for the second week of Dynamite to really grab me—more on that later.  Power’s first show was a good one. In five bouts, match of the show…

The WWE got a huge signing today as Cain Velasquez, the former 2-time UFC Heavyweight champion, joins the company. Velasquez is with WWE on a multi-year deal, according to Fox Sports.  Cain Velasquez to WWE  It’s a signing that’s just in time as WWE Crown Jewel 2019 was in need of that super match. With his debut on SmackDown on 10/4, it seemed like a lock that Velasquez would be involved with WWE in some way. He appeared way ahead of the road to WrestleMania 36 for it to be a special appearance.  Plus, Velasquez has been wrestling for Lucha Libre AAA this year. There, he debuted on the company’s…

I tend to go back and watch WWE RAW shows from earlier in the year. You know, stuff that I missed. One thing that stood out from the July 1st show was the brawl between Lashley and Strowman.  Lashley vs. Strowman’s Hoss Match  Now, I love a match between hoss wrestlers. Lashley is a genetic freak and Strowman is a monster. He’s the beast that Corbin should’ve been. Just a massive…killdozer of an athlete. I’m the modern wrestling climate seeing two heavyweights like these two might result in some sarcastic yawns and a couple of legit ones.   What I see is a brawl: fighting in its…

Summer has always been a hot season for professional wrestling mainly because of that season’s big show. We’re going back 20 years to SummerSlam ‘99 as well as WCWs final Road Wild. Yes! This is a double review WWE vs. WCW, August of 1999 who had the better show!  Road Wild ‘99  Since it was held August 14, I guess we’ll review this one first. PPVs held outdoors have always been my jam. Especially when they’re set up to where you know they’re outside. WCW was always good at this. WWE not so much. They had a few shows where they got it right but most…
