We’ve got two legends of the game here! Jake “The Snake” Roberts and “The Hardcore Legend” Terry Funk! These two are often pitted against each other on the mic and folks tend to lean Roberts. Let’s see who takes this Mic Battle on The Overtimer. Remember, this is all about how they deliver in interviews, non-wrestling segments and the like. Ring the bell! Jake the Snake Most know Jake the Snake from his time in WWE between 1986 and 1992 but mainly for his time there during the 1980s. He was one of those guys who was a great contrast to the…
AEW has a lot going for it. A large bankroll? Check. Talented roster? Check. Few big stars at the top? Check. What’s this I see? A television deal without a good amount shows to even cement the product and sell it? Check. Buzz going into its debut TV show? Check. The company’s style is a concern. I love the athletic approach of some of the matches and the storyline approach of other. It’s the full-throttle ring approach every week that makes me wary. All Out Might Not Be The Best In-Ring Approach For A 2-Hour Show AEW is made of…
Now and days if a wrestling program is on television, it seems like the goal is to get two hours a week. That’s roughly the length of a film plus credits, a special season finale, a series finale of a ratings buster or a collegiate sports block. And don’t get me started on going three hours. That’s a pay-per-view, chief. It’s a regular pro sports TV block. That’s a “special 3-hour RAW” or a late 90s Nitro. In either case, it’s a lengthy period to be parked in front of the television, so this show had to be good. There couldn’t be…
You may have noticed but a new WWE game has been released for iOS and Android. Yes, I’m talking about WWE Universe. You’d think “Oh cool, I’ve got a booking simulator on my phone and I can book WWE matches! Awesome!” At least you would probably think that going on Universe mode from the WWE 2K games. Unfortunately, this is another battle game but it’s not a card battle game like Supercard or a fighting game like Immortals. It’s actually in between the two. Yes, I remember WWE Champions was a thing. We’re talking about Universe. WWE Universe This game has all the trappings of a card game but you’re…
WCW Starrcade was always my favorite wrestling PPV. Even though it never had the big buzz around it like WrestleMania, the granddaddy of all wrestling PPVs had a presentation style that just did it for me. See, even during WWE’s worst periods, Vince managed to get good TV and set production for WrestleMania. A show like WWF Breakdown: In Your House from 1998 might look busted and disgusted with wrestlers entering through an aisle, crowd-side entrance with just a sign saying “Breakdown” over the entrance but WrestleMania was about to be up here looking dusty to pay-per-view. WCW Starrcade ‘92 At any rate, the Starrcade that has always stood out to me was the 1992 edition. Packing roughly 8,000…
One of the overlooked feuds in WWE is the “Woman of the 90s” battle. This feud featured Sensational Sherri and Luna Vachon. Now, the Women’s Division was revived in late 1994 and featured Alundra Blayze as its crown jewel. This feud—which took place a year prior—was what could’ve reignited it early. The Woman of the 90s The feud itself started after Luna attacked Sherri Martel following HBK and Tatanka’s match at WrestleMania IX. Sherri, who backed HBK in past during the start of his heel run was now supporting Tatanka. Luna Vachon had never appeared in WWE at this point. However, she was…
Have you checked CP Bialois’ dream match for King Kong Bundy vs. Big Van Vader? He matched the two up in WWE and it’s a showdown I’m surprised hasn’t happened. I mean, both of those guys were around since the 1980s and their paths never crossed. They never even teamed. It’s wild. So, CP will have to forgive me if I snag his segment for a dream match of my own: Tommy Dreamer vs. Chris Kanyon. The “Innovator of Violence” against the “Innovator of Offense.” While both were never near the top in WWE, there was a period during the Invasion and bit afterward where…
