Ladies and gentlemen, AEW Dynamite is coming to us live from Cleveland, Ohio tonight! Jon Moxley is in the building here tonight! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and you can expect the same coverage tonight as always!
A funny thing about this month is that it has been chock full of special episodes. We began with the Homecoming event in Jacksonville on New Year’s Day, transitioned to the Anniversary special the next week, Bash at the Beach began after that, which finished with the show on the Jericho Cruise in the middle of the ocean the week after! January has been a unique month for AEW to be sure, but we do finally seem to be calming down atleast a tad here. I mean, we only have four pre-announced things to look at here tonight, which for Dynamite is kinda small. But, I can’t say I mind, it’s already been a pretty big week in wrestling.
Jon Moxley To Make An Appearance
It’s of course always something of a big deal when you get to hear from Jon Moxley. But tonight’s particularly interesting for two reasons. The first is that he just defeated PAC to become the new No.1 Contender to Chris Jericho’s AEW World Championship at Revolution next month. He’s been on an obvious collision course with Le Champion since December, but now it’s been made official, the two will be squaring off for the title on February 29th, good ‘ol Leap Day.
The other facet here is that we are in Cleveland, Ohio tonight. This is of course Jon Moxley’s hometown. So it’s a pretty fun idea to have him come here to celebrate his victory and promise to take Jericho down now that he’s got his match. But I wouldn’t exactly expect the inflatable mascots and Soultrain Jones cameos that Jericho’s own celebrations have entailed in the past. Really the only way Mox tends to like to celebrate is with sheer violence.
Something that makes AEW a little different from WWE is how they generally treat hometown folks. Whereas in WWE, being in your hometown is a sure death sentence, with you invariably being beaten and/or humiliated in front of your friends and family, AEW likes trying to make people into hometown heroes. So I feel like odds are pretty good that somebodies’ gonna get a Paradigm Shift tonight.
