WWE Monday Night Raw is kicking off as I type this. We see a vignette of Edge’s return and Randy Orton coming out to face off with him, only to lay him out with a brutal assault. Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and I’ll be giving you the live recap and results from the night as they come!
And now, out Randy Orton himself comes, icy as ever. We are eight minutes into the show before he enters the ring. Tons of boos as the music stops and we get a “You Suck”. Randy still very slowly going through his entrance it seems, over to the corner. Steps up onto the second rope, eventually. Just as we get ten minutes into the show he grabs a microphone. I’m not exaggerating, this is the pace. Trying to absorb as many boos as he can as he goes over to another corner, makes it clear he does intend to speak and the heat intensifies. Finally lifts the mic to speak. “Look, I-“, but the crowd cuts him off with more boos.
Randy says he guesses he owes everyone an explanation. “You see, the thing-” boos. Says last week… loud round of “You Suck”. There’s an area of the crowd chanting “Let him talk” but they’re being greatly outvoiced as the rest of the audience definitely does not want to hear from him. Orton finally says he can’t do this, drops the mic and rolls out of the ring. Jeering on his way out as he teases going back in, but eventually makes his leave up the ramp.
That was kinda what I expected, except better!
I’m glad the heat was what it was there, because that segment certainly would not have worked at all otherwise. It’s rare you see that kind of reaction where a crowd just will not let a guy speak, didn’t wanna hear it. It’s not as though he’d have an explanation that’s all that good regardless, I mean it’d be a scripted WWE promo coming up with some generic reason. So yeah, this works out just fine for me!
Now the question is, how do we not spoil this within the next two months? That’s gonna be a tricky one, but we’re certainly at risk of having a very big Mania match on our hands here.
