WWE Friday Night SmackDown is on tonight once again! And it brings with it a special edition of the old WWE.com webseries, the Dirt Sheet! My name is Jordan Huie, you are here visiting the Overtimer and tonight, like many other nights on the wrestling week, you’ll be getting the full coverage of the show, which goes on live in less than an hour as of this writing! That means a recap and results from the show moments after the conclusion of each segment! Plus, previews of everything to come here tonight! There’s apparently a fair bit more to talk about than usual here this evening too so I should really get going! Let’s get started on these previews!
John Morrison and the Miz bring about the return of the Dirt Sheet!
When John Morrison came back to WWE, I don’t know how many were really clamoring for a reunion with his old running buddy the Miz. I mean the Miz actually wrote Morrison off TV back when he left all those years ago with a Skull Crushing Finale onto the stage. They don’t want me to remember that but I can’t help it… still, it was as logical a way to get him involved in storylines as any other. And they were a very successful team in their own right, some would say those days were the coolest the Miz ever was.
And one of the reasons for that was the Dirt Sheet, originally a web series that was shown on WWE.com. As the name would suggest, it was mildly leaning on the fourth wall, but mostly it was just about mocking other members of the roster in any which way they could think of. It was often goofy, but was somewhat ahead of it’s time really, as looking back, it’s kinda similar to a video series you might see on YouTube today.
Of course, when they tried to do it live in the ring, it fell very, very flat, it just didn’t really translate. And I imagine that this is, nonetheless, what we’ll be seeing them do again here tonight… but on the bright side, atleast this will have terrible modern overproduced scripting as well! In other words it should basically feel the exact same as an episode of MizTV but with a guest that’s on his side for once.
But hey, if they wanna prove me wrong, I am more than down for that! I did kinda like this show back in it’s first form! When I was, like, 14, but surely that’s irrelevant~!
