The first major PPV outing for the National Wrestling Alliance reboot is in the books, and Into The Fire was a solid show. It didn’t exactly change the game or add any contenders to the match of the year discussion, but it had the consistency the NWA has been known for this year. Here are the major stories leaving this show.
Rock n’ Roll Lives On
In the tag team title match, we saw the legendary Rock n’ Roll Express defend their championships against The Wildcards. While they are certainly no young bucks, Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson are still a dominant tag team just based on their skill level and experience alone. They captured the titles from The Wildcards on Episode #9 of NWA Powerrr, and it seems they will hold onto them for longer than most expected. With the NWA tag team division being rather sparse, we will likely see them defend against The Dawsons or Homicide & Eddie Kingston next, as Wild Cards should be sent to the back of the line after losing twice in a row.
Aron Stevens Wins The NWA National Championship
In a triple threat match including the reigning champion Colt Cabana & the upstart Ricky Starks, we saw Aron Stevens become NWA National Champion. This was following interference from his manager, the mysterious Question Mark, who delivered a swift throat jab allowing Stevens to pick up his first title in NWA. Many will recognize Stevens as the former Damien Sandow of WWE, and he’s just as entertaining in NWA as he was in WWE when he also played the role of Damien Mizdow. The midcard scene in NWA is thriving, so I’m sure Stevens will have his hands full maintaining his grip on the championship.
Marty Scurll Returns To The NWA
Following the main event of the show which saw Nick Aldis beat James Storm 2-1, Aldis took to the podium to address viewers when a very familiar song hit. This was the music of The Villain, Marty Scurll. Scurll had previously faced Aldis for the NWA Championship at the 2019 Crockett Cup, and seems to be back for more. Marty Scurll recently finished up with Ring Of Honor, and is expected to show up in All Elite Wrestling soon, but with NWA having a light schedule, there is no reason he won’t be able to work both companies. With Scurll being one of the hottest prospects in wrestling today, his involvement with NWA should help a ton in their growth.
