WWE is the biggest wrestling company on the planet, and that means there are many people who want a chance to work with them. One such person in UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones. Jones is considered to be one of, if not the best fighter on the planet right now. With a record of 26 wins, 1 loss, and 1 no contest, it is very hard to argue that fact. He has been a controversial figure as well, failing drug tests and arrests for DUI, a hit-and-run and battery. He does not have a clean slate, but this hasn’t stopped WWE from bringing guest stars in in the past.
“I think it’s inevitable”
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Jon Jones spoke on wanting to appear in some capacity for WWE in the future. “I think it’s inevitable. I’ve always respected WWE, and I feel like the sports can be so similar. I have the size and athleticism and the following to transition over really well,” said Jones. “To get the opportunity to just show up, even as a special guest, would be a dream come true.”
Many MMA stars have made the transition from being a combat sports athlete to a professional wrestler. Notable examples include Dan Severn, Cain Velasquez, Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Ken Shamrock, Minoru Suzuki, and Tom Lawler. You also have people like Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley, and Jake Hagar who started in professional wrestling and found success in MMA as well.
What Would Jon Jones Do In WWE?
An athlete of his caliber would be an easy fit into WWE, as he can both trash talk and is one of the best fighters in the world. WWE loves to bring those types over, and the crossovers will often do great business. The two worlds share plenty of fans. Jon Jones would likely come in as a special attraction, but due to his size as a Light Heavyweight, it’s unlikely they would want to put him in against Brock Lesnar. It would make for a great David vs. Goliath battle, so that could be the route that would be taken. We could also see him square up with someone like Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns, who are also people who will be picked for major matches like Jon Jones would be a part of.
