Keith Lee is on top of the world in NXT, having won the NXT North American Championship from Roderick Strong. But as we all know, there is no rest for a champion in WWE. Two men stepped up on NXT TV to get their shot at Lee, these being Dominic Dijakovic and Damien Priest. Dijakovic & Priest got in the ring with Lee. Dijakovic implied that because of the past between he and Lee, referring to the PWG matches back in 2017, that he deserves the first shot at the title, not the ” bootleg Marilyn Manson,” referring to Priest. As Lee left the ring, Martinez and Dijakovic got into it, and within moments a ref was in the ring and we had a match.
Dominic Dijakovic defeated Damian Priest
For two men who are over 6’5, they wrestled a match you’d expect from the Cruiserweights of 205 Live. At one point in the match, Priest used an avalanche reverse frankensteiner off the top rope for a near fall, but would be put down with Dijakovic’s modified GTS.
The audience at Full Sail University absolutely loved this match, any who wouldn’t as it was just two hyper athletic big men going at it. Keith Lee fits that mold as well. Gone is the era of big men just lumbering around and doing power moves. People of their size have always been more impressive then they let on, with people like Andre the Giant and Big Show showing insane agility in their prime, but being portrayed as unmovable brutes instead.
Will We See Dijakovic Face Keith Lee At NXT Takeover Portland?
They have had a few epic encounters within NXT, but they have yet to face off at an NXT Takeover. With Keith Lee as North American Champion and Dijakovic having defeated Damien Priest, the match seems like a lock for the event. Much like Finn Balor vs. Johnny Gargano, this is a match which could steal the show and add to another fantastic NXT Takeover event.
Keith Lee has been on the rise, even going toe to toe with Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble. He even came as close as anyone to eliminating The Beast Incarnate. He is going to be one of the biggest stars NXT will have throughout the year, so even if this match happens, I can’t see him losing his championship so early.
