Hello loyal readers of The Overtimer! I am once again Jordan Huie, and I’ve got another night of recaption awaiting you all! This time we’re here for Clash of Champions 2019 where 10 titles will be on the line! And also a murder case might be solved, who knows? You can keep tabs on this page to follow along with the action. In the meantime, check out my preview and predictions here!
Kickoff show is underway and, interestingly, Kofi Kingston and Big E are being interviewed together, no Xavier Woods. He’s out due to an attack from The Revival… ah, no, okay he’s making his return here. For a moment I thought Kofi was going to be forced to do double duty. Xavier congratulates the Revival as they now have their attention, and tonight they will show them that this is not a good thing. Kofi says tonight will be just him vs. Randy Orton, one on one, no interference. Not sure what he’s basing that off of but I guess that’s a stip. He recalls recreating the greatest moment of his career putting Orton through the table on SmackDown, and they of course all promise to remain champions.
Triple Threat Match for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Drew Gulak (c) vs. Humberto Carrillo vs. Lince Dorado
Surprisingly, but quite nicely, this gets a Big Fight Intro. Lince is relatively liked, Humberto still an unknown, Gulak with a smattering of reactions. Gulak with the immediate tackle to Lince. Eats a quick double dropkick and a second from Carrillo and Lince. Humberto starts a springboard arm drag on Lince but it sent flying, only to hit an arm drag on Gulak to get him to the floor. Humberto follows, Lince with a baseball slide to Gulak, knocking him into Humberto, and a tope takes them both out! Rana takes Gulak across the floor, big chop to Humberto, Lince goes up top but Gulak knocks him off the top and he ends up hung stomach first on the ropes, bouncing off in painful fashion. Humberto with a middle rope crossbody for a 2.
This will be hard to recap… Humberto with a wristlock, goes up top but Gulak yanks him to the mat for a 2 count. Armwringer commences. Lince tries to get out, but it’s transitioned into a half nelson. Gets up, whips him, Lince with a handspring kick. Humberto back in the ring, roll-through dropkick takes Gulak down! Charge, clothesline, snap mare, basement dropkick. Back roll into a standing moonsault for 2. Handspring Japanese Arm Drag sends Gulak flying! Gulak to the floor, Humberto with a kick to Lince brings him onto Gulak’s shoulders.. Carrillo with a corkscrew plancha right into Dorado, taking everyone down in spectacular fashion!
That was actually good enough to earn a “This Is Awesome” chant as Humberto tries to get the win with a missle dropkick on Lince, but Gulak breaks it up. Takes Humberto up top, tries for a superplex, gets knocked down. Humberto stands…. looks for a moonsault, Gulak gets the boot up but Humberto catches it and turns him around for a Sharpshooter! But Lince comes in and gets Humberto with a variation of the Octopus Stretch, breaking the hold with of his own! Gulak rips Lince off of him and tosses him into Humberto! Series of roll-ups follow, constant break-ups and kickouts. Roundhouse kick to Gulak from Lince, Humberto catches Lince with an elbow, discus clothesline from Gulak to Humberto and everyone’s down! Small “205” chant hits.
Lince and Humberto trade sharp chops in the corner, Lince gets him up top, but Gulak rips him down. Gulak goes up for the superplex, gets knocked down… Lince runs up, Gulak pops him up into a dropkick to Humberto! Lince with a superkick to Gulak, goes up, Super Rana to Humberto! Lince positions him, goes up top… shooting star press, but Humberto barely avoids it! Springboard Enziguri, handstands up top, Aztec Press! He covers but Gulak hoists him up, tosses him into the post, waistlock rolling pin to Lince and he steals the win.
Winner: Drew Gulak
Went as fast as possible for most of the match as one would expect, but really spectacular stuff. Always impressive when they can go out in front of an audience that has no idea who they are and win them over, and they were certainly getting there.
Backstage we hear from Bayley and Sasha Banks who mock Interviewer Girl #3 for questioning them being so calm in spite of their intense matches. Sasha proclaims that they’ll be going home with all the gold.
Whoa, what… this is happening now…?
WWE United States Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs. Cedric Alexander
I don’t particularly care for this happening on the kickoff, I almost hope they don’t crown Cedric now. But okay, bell rings, immediate Michinoku Driver, immediate nearfall. Cedric with a tope wipes AJ out. Handspring enziguri, another nearfall. Chops in the corner, backdropped to the apron, WWE Head Kick, Cedric goes for a springboard but AJ trips him up and he falls onto the ropes. Out on the apron, brutal vertical suplex takes Cedric onto the back of his neck! Outside… Styles Clash on the floor, my God. Rolls him into the ring, cover… AJ lets Cedric up. Cedric fights back as the crowd chants for him, tries for a roll-up, but AJ reverses into the Calf Crusher! Cedric struggles but gets to the ropes! Fights back into, Springboard Reverse STO gets 2! But AJ gets him up, Reverse DDT with some serious snap. Goes to the apron, Phenomenal Forearm! A second Styles Clash and that is it.
Winner: AJ Styles
Well. AJ won strong as hell. Cedric was the hometown boy which I didn’t even realize going in so of course this match exists to get heat. Afterwards, OC attack Cedric, quite unnecessarily and it does indeed earn boos. That’s all.
Main card has begun and while I thought the Raw tag titles and Universal titles might go on one after the other, but perhaps not because starting out…
WWE Raw Tag Team Championships: Seth Rollins & Braun Strowman (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode

Rollins shows his strength, going to the corner anyway, until Ziggler whips him to the mat. Ziggler goes for another leaping DDT, but Rollins catches him and gets the Falcon Arrow! Tag to Braun who is an absolute freight train. Full run around ringside going through Roode and Dolph. Dolph cuts Braun off with a rake to the eyes, then evades a charge to send Braun into the post. Robert does his taunt, Braun charges in knocks him into Rollins by accident, Braun continues to charge and Ziggler lowers the top rope to send him outside of the ring. Robert then hits Rollins with the Glorious DDT and that is it.
Winners: Robert Roode & Dolph Ziggler
That was a pretty fun match! Still wouldn’t have done this with a world title feud, but hey. Roode and Ziggler do have a lot of potential as a tandem, should have a fair bit of steam after this.
Backstage, Braun puts the blame for losing the tag titles squarely on Seth, and says he’ll further that losing streak when he gets these hands.
In another part of backstage, Becky Lynch boasts about victory after victory, and says that when Sasha aimed at her head with that steel chair, she called for The Man. Well tonight, The Man comes around.

Bayley comes out with the Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tube Men! Immediate Big Boot from Charlotte, Bayley kicks out of the ensuing pin and has to bail! Subtly, Bayley rips off the bottom turnbuckle, trips a charging Charlotte headfirst into it, gets the pin.
Winner: Bayley
That was a classic heel win there. Got beaten the whole time, blatantly breaks the rules for a desperation win. Works, she needed wins like that. Bayley absolutely bolted like a coward afterwards, hurrying up the ramp at top speed.

Dawson gets Xavier into a Reverse Indian Deathlock! Xavier struggles… can’t get the ropes, has no choice but to tap out!
