Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here, for back-to-back recaption! Not quite live here but I’mma be giving you the play-by-play on the replay of WWE NXT! Let’s get to it!
New intro here from Poppy. She’s here with a live performance of it to ensure that nobody understands a single lyric. Live performances have sounded a lot worse though. Quality’s never gonna be perfect but this is pretty good. They then transition into a song for Io Shirai! It’s a pretty rad entrance! Poor Candice, her entrance feels really underwhelming after that. But we’re starting off with a kickass match-up!
Io Shirai vs. Candice LaRae
Bell rings, Io with a slap, Candice answers with a forearm an Io bails! Candice chases her around the arena, catches her, whips her in, Io with a Tiger Feint Kick off the apron! Hits the ropes, big time suicide dive! Pop and chant of “NXT”! Io whips Candice in, only for LaRae to get a suicide dive of her own! Candice throws her in, clips her with a knee, neckbreaker drapes her on the second rope! Step-up senton, cover for 2! Candice up top, Io stops her, Lungblower off the bottom rope, absolutely crushing! Io stomps her into the opposite corner, grinding the boots, springing double knees! Hot damn! Cover for 2.
Io takes her down in the middle, running basement dropkick for 2! Dueling chant starts as Io yanks on the hair. Kicks to the face. Candice fights back with blows, the duel is still going, sunset flip for 2, jawbreaker from Candice! Spinning headscissors, Shirai counters by flipping onto her feet! But she eats a step-enziguri, sharp shot! Takes Io to the apron, Candice goes out and pulls her up, wants a suplex but Io blocks… knocks her onto the bottom rope, they’re throwing stiff shots. Io with a fish hook. Wants a German onto the apron now… Candice with some back elbows. Ref has rubber gloves hinting at blood, Candice’s nose is busted looks like. Candice up top, Io stops her, wants a superplex! Candice is blocking it, knocks her to the canvas! Candice takes her time getting set and Io knocks her off the top rope anyhow, commercial break.
We come back to see Candice and Io both on the mat, fighting to their feet. Candice throws hands, big clothesline. Hits the corner, charging basement dropkick! Big Apple hits, snapmare. LeRae on the second rope, Tornado DDT for a nearfall! Candice takes her up top, pursues… wants her neckbreaker but Io stays put and sends her flying! Stands up, goes for her awesome moonsault but Candice gets the knees up! They struggle their way up, Candice with some forearms, gets an inside cradle for 2, Io with a big uppercut! Cross-armbreaker transitioned into a vicious headscissor! Never thought I’d say that but yeah, I’d buy a tapout from this headscissor. Candice gets to the bottom rope to escape it!
Io, frustrated, goes out and gets a chair from under the ring! Takes it inside… wants to swing it, ref grabs it away, Candice rolls Io up for a 2 count! Twisting Facebuster, running knee takes her out! Wants her lionsault, but Io rolls out of the way and she lands right on the chair! Io pins and that’s that!
Winner: Io Shirai
Didn’t hit her with the chair but won off it anyway. Good stuff as always! But man these people are not willing to boo Io at all, and that entrance probably did Candice no favors, Io is probably the most popular woman on NXT now. She attacks Candice afterwards, gets the chair, but Rhea Ripley comes in for the save! Rips the chair away and forces Io to bail!
We see a clip of Damian Priest’s dirty win over Pete Dunne two weeks ago. A rematch between the two is announced for next week!
Finn Balor emerges! Finger guns on the stage. Makes his way to the ring.
Chant of “Finn” mixed with boos. Finn says it’s funny how things work out. “Thank You Finn” chant. Finn says two months he’s laying down for what’s supposed to be the hottest thing in the business because he put on a new mask! Well now he’s taken his mask off and now he’s the hottest thing in the business! Everybody has their opinions, the fans, the office, the boys in the back… buncha twitter tough guys on social media, huh? The problem is that there are too many fans in the locker room who should be out here with the crowd. Says he doesn’t watch this business, this business watches him. Which brings him to Johnny Gargano, the heart of NXT. Congratulates him for getting out of the hospital. But if you want to go again, he will send you straight back and you won’t be Johnny Wrestling, you will be Johnny Watches Wrestling, exactly the way it’s supposed to be.
