Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to preview the black-and-gold portion of the Wednesday Night Wars! There’s plenty on tap for tonight, so let’s not waste anytime; this is WWE NXT!
Tyler Bate vs. Cameron Grimes
These two had a fun confrontation last week, that saw Bate knock Grimes out and take the hat right off his head in the process! They wasted no time announcing this match afterwards, and I’m all for it. Sounds like a great athletic brawl to me! Bate’s probably the favorite, but Grimes has been pushed pretty well so don’t be shocked to see him take this. It’d be a pretty good elevating win for him, I think.
Candice LaRae vs. Io Shirai
There is no reason in the world this shouldn’t be the feud for the NXT Women’s title right now, and I’ll keep saying that for as long as it remains true. But anyway it’s always awesome to see them against one another, they had easily, far and away the best women’s Takeover match 2019 and I suspect this will be on about that level.
In theory Candice needs to win this time if she’ll be challenging Shayna again anytime soon, Io obviously isn’t getting a 1-on-1 title shot given that she’s a heel.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships: The Kabuki Warriors (c) vs. Tegan Nox & Dakota Kai
So this will be the biggest these titles have felt since their introduction, full-stop. No questions asked.
Nox and Kai (are they the real Team Kick?) have maybe a 0.2% of victory here, but it’ll be a real good match in front of a crowd that cares. So these titles will be made more important by it’s occurrence by default. And that’s a great thing. And hey, any excuse to get Asuka and Kairi Sane back on NXT! It’s quite definitively where both of them belong!

It’s also being advertised that we’ll hear from Finn on the heels of, well, his big heel turn! After his vicious assault to Johnny Gargano, we’ll see his motivations and get a better idea of where we go from here. Is Finn associated with the Undisputed Era, as it appeared? Are two former major Bullet Club members re-aligned once more in the form of Finn Balor and Adam Cole? Why align with the NXT Champion rather than go after him?
These would be the kinds of questions that this might answer.
Keith Lee & Matt Riddle vs. The Undisputed Era (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish) (Non-title)
This is some pretty massive stuff! We actually don’t have a great inclination as to who is next in line to challenge Fish and O’Reilly right now, so it’s an interesting time to put this match together. I actually sorta had it in my head that Lee and Dijakovic might put their differences aside and go after them, but Lee and Riddle certainly works too! Whether it’s setting up something or just a one-off, it’s sure to be a great match in any event.
