Ladies and gentlemen it is now 2020, New Year’s Day! But more importantly it’s Wednesday, which means WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite tonight! Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here, to give you the previews for everything All Elite as usual~! It’s a special night of course, AEW Homecoming, and they’ve perhaps stacked tonight’s card more than ever before for the occasion! There’s plenty to talk about, so let’s dive into the previews!
AEW World Women’s Championship Fatal Four Way: Riho (c) vs. Britt Baker vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Nyla Rose
So initially, this was not meant to be a fatal four way match. After upsetting Hikaru Shida and later defeating Britt Baker in a No. 1 Contender’s match, Kris Statlander was meant to be challenging Riho for the title on this night. But with her being a brand new and somewhat impromptu signing, the announcement was something of an oversight given that she had a booking that day already. Not wanting to make her cancel, the match instead was moved to the following week. And in it’s place, we have Riho defending against the other three women who make up the Top 5 of the standings.
AEW Dynamite Preview (1/1/2020) Riho vs. Nyla Rose vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Britt Baker | All Elite Wrestling
This has been panned by some and praised by others. Obviously announcing it was a mistake but an easy error to see all things considered, and one that hasn’t actually happened yet. Any other time someone had to be pulled it was due to injury or other unexpected circumstance, this is the first time a booking clash has caused this. It’s just another learning experience. Ultimately not pulling people from their bookings is the right thing to do. But of course I’m probably somewhat biased because I have tickets to that January 8th show and I was thrilled to hear that we’d be getting that title match, but that’s neither here nor there~
It’s a net gain in the end, as that match will still be happening anyway and in the meantime we have what should be a pretty wild four way! But Riho has beaten these three women before and there’s absolutely no reason to think she won’t do it again. Riho to retain.
