Keep in mind that it’s not just matches that we have to cover, big moments can happen in a lot of different capacities in professional wrestling! January 1st brings us a new year, and we’re ringing in 2020 with a very special episode of AEW Dynamite! It’s Homecoming time, a return to Jacksonville, a very storied site for the young promotion that is All Elite Wrestling!
I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, here all night as always to give you the live results from the show as they come! There’s certainly a lot of big news coming out of tonight’s show and it’s hard to get much bigger than this!
One of the most major stories going into this show was the question of what MJF’s stipulation would end up being. Since being betrayed by his former protege at AEW Full Gear, Cody has been insistent on getting his hands on MJF. But MJF has made it clear he doesn’t want that match, atleast not by anyone’s terms but his own. After turning down several exuberant offers, MJF made clear that there is a stipulation that would get him to accept the match, but he’d only reveal it here tonight in Jacksonville. We’ve now finally heard what the stipulation in question is, except there are three of them!
You can see an excerpt of my recap of this segment below:
Number 1. He says the match can happen at one place only and that’s Revolution. In the meantime, if Cody lays a finger on him, no match at Revolution, no match ever. Stipulation Number 2, since he’s such a tough guy, he thinks it’s only fair that in order to wrestle him he should have to go one on one with an opponent of his choosing and beat them. And that opponent is going to be none other than Mr. Mayhem himself, his personal war dog, Wardlow! But he stops to say he doesn’t know if that stipulation is good enough. Says his big debut needs to be bigger. Wants to up the ante, and feels this match should be held in a solid steel cage!
Last but not least, Stipulation Number 3… this is his favorite stipulation. Live on TNT, in front of his family, friends and God… he is going to get down on all fours like the dog that he is and MJF is going to whip him. He won’t just whip him once, not two times, not three, not four, not five, not six or seven or eight or even nine but ten glorious times! And as the leather of his belt repeatedly rips off his skin, each scar will be a constant reminder for the rest of his days that his name is Maxwell Jacob Friedman and he’s better than him and he knows it!
So the stip has been set and rather than relating directly to the match, instead MJF has opted to lay a gauntlet at Cody’s feet for what he has to overcome, something that already began with his siccing the Butcher and the Blade on him. The match will go down at AEW Revolution, but only if Cody: A) doesn’t touch him before then, B) can defeat Wardlow in a steel cage match and C) allows MJF to whip him ten times with a leather belt.
