Cara Noir Becomes New Progress Unified Champion

Earlier today we reported that Eddie Dennis had to vacate the Progress Unified Championship following an injury suffered in a match with Trent Seven at the NXT UK TV tapings. A Fatal Four Way was planned, and it was between Paul Robinson, Kyle Fletcher, Ilja Dragunov, and Cara Noir at Progress Chapter 101: Dalmatians. After a hard fought battle, and enigmatic Cara Noir would come out as victor. He is the 15th man to hold the title, with previous holders including Will Ospreay, Marty Scurll, Pete Dunne, and WALTER. It has had a very great linage so far, and with Noir as a rising star in wrestling, he will add to it’s legacy perfectly.

    Who Is Cara Noir?

Noir seemingly popped out of nowhere and started making an impression across all of the UK. His series of matches with Ilja Dragunov in Progress truly helped launch him into stardom after nearly 10 years of wrestling in relative obscurity. His skill in the ring and character work are near unmatched, and he has that intangible feeling that makes him an absolute star in the making.

It is only a matter of time before a major company scoops him up, be it WWE, AEW, or NJPW. He won’t remain a free agent for very long. 2020 could be his breakout year, and starting it by winning a fairly major championship is not a bad start.

What Company Would Fit Him Best?

With him being such a unique performer, any of the major promotions would benefit from him; provided they let him spread his wings and be himself. AEW is the best for this, with them giving more control over how wrestlers are presented than WWE. He would likely find great success in NXT UK, but that would make him a big fish in the smallest pond of WWE. New Japan is no stranger to European talent, with Will Ospreay & Zack Sabre Jr. in very prominent roles within the company, and he would certainly be able to keep up with the style and pace of Japan. He could also choose to stay independent and navigate the waters of wrestling on his own terms. It’s too early to tell.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
