We’re one month out from the biggest show in the history of All Elite Wrestling. All In has already sold over 70,000 tickets for Wembley Stadium, despite there being no matches announced for the show.
There is an expectation for big matches on the card as AEW makes their UK debut, and one is set to contain Chris Jericho taking on one of the biggest names in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Chris Jericho To Battle IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay?
After Will Ospreay regained the IWGP United States Championship from Kenny Omega at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II – many were expecting the trilogy of matches to conclude at All In.
Omega & Ospreay are currently tied 1-1 in singles matches in 2023, and both have been among the best matches of the year. However, AEW might be taking a different approach – and place Ospreay against Chris Jericho instead.
This would allow AEW to save Omega vs. Ospreay III for All Out, which has not moved as many tickets compared to All In.
It also basically ensures that Ospreay gets a big win in the UK, as it’s hard to see how Jericho would benefit from getting the win over Ospreay, especially with him having not wrestled for NJPW in years.
If AEW moves forward with this storyline idea, it will also involve Don Callis – who is currently trying to lead Jericho into an alliance.
Jericho will team with Konosuke Takeshita to face Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia next week on AEW Dynamite, the next stage in this storyline.
Matches Teased And Potential Pitfalls
There have been other matches teased for All In. Samoa Joe is expected to face Zack Sabre Jr, while Eddie Kingston has called for a rematch with Shingo Takagi.
Another potential hurdle for Ospreay vs. Jericho is Ospreay’s status in the NJPW G1 Climax tournament. This is a tournament with a heavy toll on the wrestlers involved, especially top names like Ospreay.
AEW will be unlikely to start the build to this match until Ospreay finishes the tournament, just to ensure he’s able to make the event.
If everything goes to plan, Ospreay will be available for the event – as he’s booked to be in the UK the day before All In, where he will wrestle Shingo Takagi at the RevPro 10th Anniversary event.
