The biggest free agent in professional wrestling right now is Marty Scurll. Since he finished his contract with Ring Of Honor, we could practically hear checkbooks fly open. With such a major star available, all companies want him as part of their roster. Everyone assumed All Elite Wrestling would scoop him up, as he was a part of The Elite before they started a wrestling company. You can still see him in the intro to Being The Elite even. It seems like Ring Of Honor could remain his home however.
Main Roster WWE Money For Much Less Work
As first reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Marty Scurll has been offered an even better deal than they offered Matt Taven. It would end up meaning he makes essentially what someone on the WWE main roster (RAW & Smackdown) would make, but only having to work 40 dates a year for them. It’s not quite a Brock Lesnar deal, but as far as contracts in wrestling go, you can’t do much better. It’s high money for not much wear and tear on your body. Marty wrestles safe anyways, so this type of deal could keep him wrestling for a very long time.
Given that he has worked for New Japan Pro Wrestling in the past, and that they wanted him in the Super J Cup, he could fill in some extra weeks by taking advantage of the still existing partnership between the two companies. He is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, so his value to NJPW is almost equal to that of what he has in ROH. He has also been appearing for NWA as a potentially major challenger for NWA Champion Nick Aldis.
Ring Of Honor Needs Marty Scurll
After having a very rough 2019 in terms of controversy and middling attendance figures, Ring of Honor needs to keep everyone that they possibly can. Letting a major star like Marty Scurll go, who could very well be one of their top guys for years to come, would be a terrible choice at this point. They must realize this to be offering him such a fantastic offer. Talent is needed to run a wrestling company, and they’ve been doing an awful job keeping talent as of late.
Would you want to see Marty Scurll continue with Ring of Honor, or were you hoping to see him move to AEW or another company later this year? Stay tuned as we will know more about his contract situation very soon.
