The current NWA Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis has been on the top of his game, and the top of the NWA for most of it’s revival. Things could have worked out differently for him however. He was in a crucial role at All In, where he defended the NWA Championship against Cody Rhodes in a losing manner, before winning it back from him in a 2/3 falls match at the NWA 70th anniversary show. He has become the face of the NWA, but he was offered a role in AEW which he turned down.
Nick Aldis Would Be A Midcarder In AEW
While he is proven to be an excellent world champion, Nick Aldis would stuggle to stand out in AEW as he is a pretty vanilla wrestler. AEW is full of bright and colorful characters, and high flying masters. He is more of a throwback type of wrestler, focusing on long matches full of story and call backs. It’s a similar style to that of Cody, who would always be a bigger star than him in AEW. Instead, he is on a smaller stage but at the forefront, enjoying a 459+ day reign with one of the most historic championships in all of professional wrestling.
NWA Has A Much Lighter Schedule
Where NWA uses the taped format for their weekly programming, and only run a few PPV events a year, Nick Aldis isn’t working a hard schedule. While AEW is pretty light as well, not doing countless house shows and putting extra wear & tear on their atheltes like WWE does, NWA is even better in this regard. This allows Nick Aldis plenty of time to work other events and be a traveling world champion, which he does very well. He has travelled to Canada, Austrailia, and all over the United States defending his championship against everyone from Marcus Burke to Billy Gunn.
Being able to be the face of a brand, travel the world, and still have plenty of days off is the ideal role for anyone in wrestling. While NWA isn’t big these days, they’re on the rise, and that is because of Nick Aldis. Had he signed with AEW, they might not be seeing the same success.
