Kane is a legendary figure in professional wrestling. Ever since his unforgettable debut at Badd Blood 1997, when he interfered in the first Hell In A Cell match to attack his brother The Undertaker, fans were hooked. He would become one of the greatest big men in WWE history, and become a very decorated champion. However, where Kane is truly legendary is in the Royal Rumble.
He has never won the match, which about all he hasn’t accomplished it it’s history. With him recently showing up on Smackdown to help Daniel Bryan with The Fiend, could see we him this Sunday where he could enter for the 20th time?
Kane And His Royal Rumble Records
He is arguably the best performer in match history, despite never winning the match. He has been involved in 19 Royal Rumbles, the highest of anyone. The closest person to matching that was Shawn Michaels & The Big Show at 12 each. He holds the record for most eliminations overall at 42, with Shawn Michaels in second at 40, and The Undertaker just behind Shawn at 38. He has spent 3 hours, 33 minutes involved in rumble matches, the fourth highest in match history. The leader is Chris Jericho at an astounding 4 hours, 56 minutes.
Most impressive of all, despite it being broken by Roman Reigns in 2014 was the long standing record for most eliminations in a single match. In 2001, he was able to take out over a third of the competition by himself when he eliminated 11 men from the match. These included The Rock, Grand Master Sexay, The Honky Tonk Man, Raven & Al Snow. He would make it to the final two where Stone Cold Steve Austin would finally stop Kane and win the match. Roman Reigns broke this record 13 years later, when he would eliminate 12 men. These included Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Cesaro, Kofi Kingston, and Kevin Nash. Much like Kane in 2001 he made it to the final two only to be eliminated by Batista.
One More Run
With Kanes career winding down, he doesn’t have many more Rumbles left in him. One final victory lap in the 2020 Rumble would be a nice way to solidify his time as one of the all time greats in the matchup.
