The long-awaited night is finally here. For the first time, we’ll be to actually call this the January 5 Dome Show! Silly as that sounds, this is serious stuff here, a monumental and historic night for pro wrestling. Wrestle Kingdom 14 is one double the scope of everything that has come before it, a full weekend of wrestling greatness. And now we’re here on Night 2, where things are heating up more than ever before.
I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, and it’s a good thing my sleep schedule was already a great big mess by the end of last year! Otherwise I’d never be able to stick with you for the entirety of these shows! It’s a great trade-off, if you ask me. I’ll be previewing the action for tonight, just as I did for Night 1, so let’s get to it!
Bronze Match: Kota Ibushi vs. Jay White
Well, suffice to say this is not the match either of these two were hoping to have here tonight. On Night 1, Kota Ibushi wrestled Kazuchika Okada to try and take his IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Jay White meanwhile was defending the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against Tetsuya Naito. Had they won, the two of them would be meeting in the main event instead, with everything on the line. Instead, they fight for pride, effectively competing for third place; though it should be said that logically, the winner of this should be next in line for a title opportunity in the very near future.
There’s still much on the line, and these two are very much rivals. Polar opposites in terms of wrestling philosophy and personality. And more than anything, they’re both going to be in a very, very bad mood after just missing out on making themselves immortal. Expect this to get extremely chippy.
This can very much go either way but I think I’m picking Kota Ibushi. Of course I picked him last night too, but whaddya gonna do?
