When it comes to the shows that are happening as part of the dealings between WWE & the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, they often focus on nostalgia for their matches. We have seen matches like Goldberg vs. Undertaker, and Degeneration-X vs. Brothers Of Destruction as marquee matches, despite them being many years past the date they could be good matches. Regardless, the fans in the arena were amazed by these matches, whereas if you did them at a more traditional WWE show, they would be ripped apart by fans. Because of this, it’s a safe spot to have a legend have one last time in the spotlight. Could this be the case for Sting? Reports indicate there has been a lot of talk about him having a major role in the upcoming event, but who could his opponent be?
Sting vs. Undertaker
Arguably one of the biggest dream matches of all time, Sting vs. Undertaker was never able to happen. Sting didn’t join the Invasion storyline after the closure of WCW, and would spend the rest of his career in TNA Wrestling, only showing up in WWE for a handful of matches near the end. He would face Triple H at Wrestlemania in what felt like the final battle between WWE & WCW, with Triple H of course winning. It was a mistake to not do Undertaker & Sting there, but you can’t change the past. The match is well past it’s ‘best before’ date, but their presence alone will make for a memorable encounter. It can’t possibly go worse than Goldberg vs. Undertaker, and hopefully they will be able to hit all their signature spots to send fans home happy in Saudi Arabia.
Could He Help Take Down The Monday Night Messiah?
Sting has a bone to pick with the newly minted ‘Monday Night Messiah’, as his final match ever was against Rollins. It ended with a career ending injury after a botched Buckle Bomb. With Sting possibly coming back, he could lead the battle against this new faction, alongside Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, and Rey Mysterio. Putting Sting in a singles match after being shelved with a major injury would be risky, but in an 8 man tag team match, he could simply come in, hit his signature spots, and use his otherworldly presence to make the match feel like a huge deal.
Who would you want to see Sting face should he return for one last match? Let us know in the comment section down below.
