Chris Jericho's Son Has Started Amateur Wrestling Career

It can be hard to follow in the footsteps of someone like Chris Jericho, but that could be something his son could do. The 16 year old Ash Irvine made his first steps into what could be a promising wrestling career. He made his High School Wrestling debut. Many professional wrestlers such as Cody Rhodes, Bray Wyatt, Nakamura, Hirooki Goto, Katsuyori Shibata and more made their start in high school with amateur wrestling, honing their grappling skills before adding in more flair and making themselves into stars. Not everyone who hits a mat in their school gym will enter the squared circle, but when your dad is Chris Jericho, you have a certain pressure.

Chris Jericho Is Proud Of His Son

In a post to Instagram, Chris Jericho shared a shot of him and his son before Ash would make his debut. “What an awesome feeling seeing @ash_irvine924 on the mat and beginning his high school wrestling career yesterday!! He is doing something I was never able to do and we are very proud of him!! He’s just getting started, but look out wrestling world… #SonOfJericho is coming for you!” is what accompanied it. Seeing your child follow in your footsteps must be a wonderful feeling, and just another thing to make 2020 the year of Jericho.

It Will Be A Long Road Ahead

It will be quite some time before we could see Ash make his way into a company like AEW, given that he is only 16. With his dad being one of the greatest of all time, it won’t be hard for him to get some of the best training around and attempt to match his fathers legacy. Those will be massive shoes to fill, but you can almost see an older Chris Jericho in his sons corner wearing a gaudy suit, distracting the ref and allowing Ash to pick up victories.

It isn’t even clear if Ash will succeed at a high school level, but if wrestling talent is passed down, he has the makings of one of the biggest stars of the next generation. We could be looking at a future AEW Champion, but it is way too early to tell for sure.

Do you think Ash Jericho could be a name to remember for the future of professional wrestling? Let us know in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
