AEW World Tag Team Championships: Hangman Page & Kenny Omega (c) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)
This one dates back to long before Kenny and Hangman even won the titles, truthfully. Back in November, Hangman Page found himself in a rough spot after losing the rubber match to PAC. He decided then and there that he was done being a member of the Elite. He was sick of being the least successful member, the one with the least to his name. Even though nobody there looked down on him, it was easy for him to feel otherwise and he wanted out.
But they resisted this. They didn’t want him to go. So instead he found himself constantly teamed up with Kenny Omega, in match after match. Page really didn’t seem to want to do it, but there was just one problem: they were really good together. The two remarkably talented singles wrestlers came together to make a great team and they were successful to earn a shot at the tag titles. And now, they’re the reigning champs themselves; amazingly they’ve done so before the Young Bucks.
And Hangman Page has done everything in his power to make sure we’re very aware of that. He’s needled Matt & Nick repeatedly about how everyone in the world expected them to be champions by now. And it’s definitely gotten under their skin. This started as a bit of jabbing during otherwise friendly encounters but really blew up this past Wednesday in a sit-down interview with JR.
The Elite loves it’s in-fighting, that’s always been a thing. It plays up the competitive tension that comes from being in pro wrestling. We’ve seen it with Cody vs. Kenny, and Young Bucks vs. Golden Lovers among others. It’s always a success and in the end, they do tend to make up. But before that, you get an explosive and heated match. That’s what we’ll see. I expect a potential show-stealer here. And… I expect new champs. The Young Bucks over. How Page reacts to that one, we’ll just have to wait and see…
