At the New Japan Pro Wrestling event in Atlanta, Georgia there was a title change in the main event of the show. The match was the current IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Juice Robinson & David Finlay facing former champions Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa, otherwise known as The Guerrillas of Destiny. The titles were on the line, but considering this was a small show in the middle of the USA tour, no one expected a title change.
Guerrillas Of Destiny Are Now 6 Time Champions
Thanks to a very opportunistic shot with the belt to the face of David Finlay, Guerillas of Destiny were able to secure the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships for the 6th time. This ends the reign of FinJuice at 0 defenses and a mere 29 days. While this reign is short, it isn’t the shortest in the championships history. That goes to
Keiji Muto & Shiro Koshinaka who held the titles for only 6 days back in 1987
Anything Can Happen
This title change happening in the first tour of the New Japan Pro Wrestling Of American expansion makes something very clear: anything is possible on these shows. The level of competition is no different than that of a NJPW show in their native country, and title changes will happen. The attendance figures were fairly low for the tour, but this title change could help turn things around as it gives these shows meaning.
Could FinJuice Regain Their Championships?
FinJuice proved they were serious contenders with their fantastic performance in the 2019 World Tag League, and solidified that at Wrestle Kingdom 14 with their victory over GoD. They proved that they are able to beat them, and with how they lost due to a cheap shot, it won’t be a loss they take laying down. We can expect them to buckle down and do what they can to avenge this loss, and with how packed the NJPW schedule is lately, they will have plenty of chances to do so. Their match at Wrestle Kingdom 14 got great reviews from fans, so more encounters between them should lead to some more memorable moments.
Do you think FinJuice can reclaim their tag team championships, or was their win at Wrestle Kingdom 14 a fluke? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
