The Women Of Honor division in Ring Of Honor took a major hit to say the least. The champion of the division, Kelly Klein was let go by the company in late 2019 after she backed Joey Mercury in his whistle blowing about backstage issues. Klein was directly involved in this, being an example of the company lacking any kind of concussion policy. Once she left, the championship had to be dealt with. We now have a clearer picture as to what the plan for the future is for the division and championship.
Ring Of Honor Presents Quest For Gold
On April 24th, Ring Of Honor will be holding an event called Quest For Gold. The main feature on the show will be the start of a tournament to crown the rebranded ROH Women’s World Title. This is one of the first major moves in the womens division since Jonathan Gresham took over duties as the head of the division in December. There is no word on who will compete in the tournament, and considering the sparse roster to choose from, we will be seeing outside talent to pad out the tournament. With the connection to NWA being a big part of Ring of Honor at the moment, we could see some of their talented division enter, perhaps even the NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa.
Maria Manics Time To Shine?
One of the most cathartic matches at Final Battle 2019 saw the dominant Maria Manic absolutely demolish former champion Angelina Love. In the 6 minute match, Love got little to no offense in on Manic. It could have ended in much less time. This beatdown got a great reaction from fans. Having a dominant champion for the relaunch of the division would be a great to buy time as they rebuild. They will need to start locking down some more talent for their division. With tryouts on the way, 2020 will be a great start to that.
Ring Of Honor has made some great moves to start the year. They have done well to distance themselves from the disaster that was 2019. A strong relaunch of their women’s division will help in this.
