The last time WWE made a trip to Saudi Arabia, things didn’t quite go that well. Not only was the show incredibly forgettable outside of disappointing matches like Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez & Braun Strowman vs. Tyson Fury, but much of their talent would get stranded in the country for many hours due to what WWE blamed on ‘mechanical issues’.
This put the episode of Smackdown that came on the following night in jeopardy, with much of the talent and crew stranded. Thankfully NXT made the save, and it lead to one of the best episodes of Smackdown in history. The main event of Adam Cole vs. Daniel Bryan especially got people talking. It kicked off the NXT Invasion storyline ahead of Survivor Series, and was just a great time all around.
This time around, WWE won’t have to think on their feet though, as they will only be sending their essential stars to Saudi Arabia, leaving enough in reserve incase larger issues arise once again.
Some WWE Talent Refuse To Go To Saudi Arabia
Due to the controversy surrounding the country, there are some talent who refuse to go to these giant super shows. Names like John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Aleister Black are all people who have not gone to previous events due to a variety of reasons. This list has likely grown following the incident that happened last time around, with many talent likely wanting to stay far away.
This will likely mean they miss out on a major paycheck, and could be looked over for future opportunities as WWE has a lot invested in these events. That is worth it to some, and atleast WWE won’t be potentially doomed come this Friday if the planes decide to not work once again.
Super Showdown Will Still Be Star Packed
With matches like The Fiend vs. Goldberg, Brock Lesnar vs. Ricochet, Bayley vs. Naomi and more, the Saudi Supershow will still have a fantastic card even with a lot of talent staying home from this event. They surely have taken some extra talent incase injury happens, but they aren’t bringing the entire roster with them this time around.
