Tonight, fans will get the usual AEW experience as Dynamite goes on from Daily’s Place in Florida, a venue owned by the family of Tony Khan. There will be no fans in attendance, but fans everywhere watching from the safety of home will see a block of great matches. The unique circumstances of this show was not lost on AEW’s Cody Rhodes, who made a quick tweet during a short break as everything gets prepared for another night of Dynamite.
Cody Rhodes Prepares For AEW’s First Empty Arena Event
Fans are beginning to get used to the idea of an empty arena show, and AEW will do their first one tonight. Likely running with a skeleton crew, you can assume the wrestlers on the show have been pitching in on setup that a crew would normally handle. On Twitter, Cody said the following: “This is perhaps the most unique day of my career – if I ever write a book, this show coming together for the people should be a chapter for sure “
Cody is a man who has had a career full of ups and downs, especially in recent years so this is just another part of his story.
Tonight Could Be Something Special
While WWE has been phoning it in with RAW & Smackdown, showing long PPV matches to fill time, AEW has a stacked card planned. Lucha Bros will face Best Friends, MJF will team with Butcher & The Blade to face Lucha Express, and The Elite clashes with Inner Circle over the advantage at Blood & Guts (which is still set for next week). Add in The Dark Order revealing The Exalted One, and you have a great show. They are going ahead as planned, and while no fans could make for an awkward atmosphere, Will Ospreay & WrestleTalk, as well as Stardom, already showed how well this format can work if you’re creative.
They are committed to giving fans the best show they can for as long as they are able. At the end of the day that is an honorable thing to do. Safety comes first, and should they have to shut down no one can blame them for giving up. They are very much like WWE in this situation.
