Another episode of AEW Dark comes to us tonight. Taz and Excalibur welcome us to the show and run down the card. Our first match of the night sees Colt Cabana make his AEW singles debut against the Librarian himself Peter Avalon. As per usual, he shushes everyone on his way out and wants to have a little cheap heat promo on the town but before he can really say anything of note, Colt Cabana’s music cuts him off.
Colt Cabana vs. “The Librarian” Peter Avalon w/ Leva Bates
Chant for Colt Cabana as the bell rings, lock-up, into the ropes, Colt quickly makes for a clean break. They tie back up, Peter gets him into the corner, another break. Avalon backs off, Colt takes up one of his books and leans into the corner as he thumbs through it. Peter charges, Colt tosses the book into the air to distract him and he kicks him to the mat. Leva Bates on the apron to yell at him, Colt politely hands her the book. Avalon charges, Cabana avoids him, gets him with a mean knife edge chop.
Avalon gets him with a top wrist lock, Cabana switches into a double lock, bridges him up, drops him into a bodyscissors! Putting on a show and a wrestling clinic, very nice. Avalon kips up out of it, tries for an elbow drop but Cabana counters into a bodyscissors! Rolls with him until he stacks him up for a 2 count. Avalon grabs a wrist, goes to the apron and shoves Colt throat first into the top rope, sending him rebounding. Standing dropkick sends Cabana flying to the outside! Avalon shushes the crowd and gets some heat.
Peter pulls him to his feet, clobbers the back, hits a knife edge chop and Cabana seems mad. Avalon throws him into the ring, “Colt Cabana” chant, up top for a crossbody for a nearfall! Colt fights out of an arm stretch, snapmares, big Bionic Elbow! And another! Knife edge chops, combination of jabs into one last Bionic Elbow! Standing splash for a nearfall! Colt goes up top, Leva Bates up on the apron to try and talk him down. Colt hops down to the apron, Bates pokes a finger in his chest. Colt grabs the finger and starts to twist! Avalon Grabs her free hand and pulls, there’s a little tug of war, Colt lets her go and they spin into a romantic pose… hold it for a moment, Colt surprises Avalon with a peck on the cheek! He’s disgusted, drops Leva onto the apron! Cabana clotheslines him into the ring, dives in for the Superman Pin and that’s that!
Winner: Colt Cabana
Man, having a crowd is super welcome right now… I can just tell it’s gonna be a breath of fresh air when it comes back for real. I’m not sure if it’s just that, or the fact that most of Cabana’s stuff is new to me, but this was a ton of fun. He’s found a real good home in AEW.
