With their biggest show of their revival coming up, the National Wrestling Alliance has made the hard choice to postpone the 2020 Crockett Cup. The classic tag team tournament which was going to be their most successful show yet, is the latest in the cancellations due to the spread of COVID-19 aka Coronavirus.
The Official Statement From The NWA
They ensured their fans signed up for the mailing list and who have purchased tickets for the upcoming events knew right away. A YouTube video was also produced for their official channel to spread the news.
‘The National Wrestling Alliance, given the uncertain course of this world health crisis, is suspending normal operations until June as far as any live performances. This includes the upcoming Atlanta, GA events; Crockett Cup PPV on April 19th at the Gateway Center Arena and our NWA Powerrr tapings at GPB Studios on April 20th and 21st. At this time, the Super Powerrr episode scheduled to air on Tuesday March 17th, which promoted these events, will not air in its current form in order to not create confusion in the marketplace. However, we will continue to produce content in the interim, and thank fans in advance for their continued support.’
Fans who purchased tickets will be refunded for the Crockett Cup, with the option to save their NWA Powerrr taping tickets for the next time they occur.
Nick Aldis Makes A Statement Of His Own
In the video announcing these cancellations, NWA World Champion Nick Aldis made his own personal statement. He wasn’t in his usual heel persona, just another man with his worries about the world. He lamented the cancelled shows, as he was looking forward to putting on another classic with Marty Scurll in the main event. However, he explained that this is for the safety of their talent and fans, and that while things will be different; this revival was built on throwing together content with very little. They will keep going everything they can to keep fans entertained, while not putting their talent at risk.
NWA Powerrr is a taped show, meaning there will be some usable content despite it being focused around the build to Crockett Cup. They will also be likely doing more Ten Pounds of Gold episodes, and could even be working on more series for this uncertain time.
