In 2017, WWE decided that Jason Jordan would become the son of Kurt Angle. It was an odd storyline to say the least, but both men would go on to make the best of it. Just as Jason Jordan was getting perfect at his new role of a brat on a brand run by his father, injury would strike and remove the talented upstart from the ring entirely. This opened his planned storyline to someone else, that being Baron Corbin. Corbin would go on to become RAW GM and even retire Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania 35. People have long suspected that they simply swapped Jordan for Corbin and removed the son angle, and Kurt Angle himself has now confirmed this.
Jason Jordan’s Intended Route
During a podcast appearance, Kurt Angle spoke on what was planned for Jason Jordan. “What I believe is that Jason was probably going to continue on being my son, he was going to start being a pain in the ass to me, I probably would’ve hired him on as my assistant GM, he would’ve started making decisions for me and it would’ve caused a lot of animosity and then him and I would’ve wrestled at WrestleMania instead of Baron Corbin. Obviously they picked Baron. No matter what you think about him, he’s a great in ring worker, his promo skills have gotten a lot better, he’s a big kid great athlete and what I believe, he replaced Jason.”
The Wrestlemania match would have been much better had the storyline played out as intended, as no one was into Corbin as the last opponent of Kurt Angle. It is just a shame that not only was Jordan’s career cut short due to injury, but we were robbed of a rare situation where a long term story would have gotten the proper payoff. It would have elevated Jordan to a main event level, and we maybe could have gotten him winning King of The Ring and having a feud with his old tag team partner in Chad Gable during. He has just become one of the biggest what if’s in modern WWE, and we can only hope that he is able to make a return from his injuries and get back on track.
