AEW Dynamite is on tonight and we’ll be giving you the same coverage as you’ve come to expect. But first, a quick preview of what’s on tap for this evening’s show!
TNT Championship Tournament Round 1: Lance Archer vs. Colt Cabana
Two recent signees square off in a major bout tonight. It’s safe to say that this is the biggest test for each of these two since their debuts. Colt Cabana has impressed in his every match since signing with the company a couple of months ago, and really embarrassed his opponents whenever given the opportunity. Colt uses his wacky zaniness in a very unique way, getting power to lower their guards and underestimate him, before surprising them with his technical know-how and veteran experience.
Even so, Lance Archer is a massive favorite in this match and rightly so. He’s perhaps the scariest beast in AEW and has torn through his first couple of matches with an intensity that few could match. I suspect it might not be as easy as one might think on paper, but at the end of the day, I can’t see Archer being humiliated in the same way that some of Cabana’s opponents have been, and I sure can’t see him losing. Lance Archer to advance. Very strong chance of getting to the finals.
Sammy Guevara takes on Sugar Dunkerton
This match is a little funny as it’s a follow-up to Jericho constantly mocking Suge D last week, nicking him Pineapple Head. I didn’t really think that would go anywhere but I suppose it’s being paid off here as Jericho’s second-in-command takes him on. Sammy to get an easy win as he focuses on the TNT title tournament, his bout with Darby Allin is probably the biggest of the first round.
Chuck Taylor vs. Kip Sabian
Chuckie T is a very underrated part of the Best Friends triumvirate. Tonight he has a very rare singles match as he goes up against Kip Sabian. I imagine this will be pretty fun and on a different week it could go either way. But considering Kip Sabian is in the TNT title tournament and Chuckie isn’t, I gotta go Sabian.
AEW Championship No Holds Barred Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Jake Hager
Everything about the build to this match has made this pretty clear. This is going to be a brutal, physical, violent and intense match. More of a fight than anything as Hager brings his MMA background and Mox tries to combat it with his action movie star fighting style. It’s been built up pretty well over the past few months with a lot of vignettes and of course is the next, possibly final step in Mox’s war against the Inner Circle. Strong as Hager has been built to be, I think everyone pretty much expects the champ to retain here and I do as well. Jon Moxley to find a way to win.
