Pro Wrestling Revolution (also known as Revolucion de la Lucha Libre) is an independent Lucha Libre promotion based out of California since 2008. On October 5th of 2019, they held an event with Pro Wrestling Revolution Heavyweight Champion Ultimo Dragon defending his title against El Hijo del Santo. An interesting aspect of the show was their altering between a Technico (Face) and Rudo (Heel) referee during the event, a practice that isn’t uncommon in Lucha Libre.
The opening match of the night was above the typical quality of a Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) opener; doing a proper job of getting the crowd warmed up for the matches further down the card. The Hermanos Azteca (Diablo Azteca/Fuerza Azteca) against El Gavilan/ZUCA didn’t have anything spectacular, but the match was geared towards getting the crowd involved.
Hermanos Azteca came away with the victory after utilizing underhanded tactics. None of the four competitors are complete products, but have relatively decent ceilings and should provide value on cards for years to come.
The Hermanos Azteca team was able to generate a lot of heat from the crowd, which is a good sign for their future in the California independent scene. Diablo looked to be the most complete member of the team and could find singles success as well after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
