Tonight’s the night, AEW Double or Nothing 2020 is soon upon us! Jon Moxley will defend his AEW World Championship – and try to reclaim the physical belt itself – against the Exalted One himself, Mr. Brodie Lee! You can expect the same live coverage of the event as always, plus a preview of every match on the card! There’s plenty to talk about so let’s get underway!
AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley © vs. Mr. Brodie Lee
Yes, even though Mox is defending his title in this match, he will not be coming to the ring wearing it. A few weeks ago, Brodie made off with Moxley’s gold (or Big Platinum as some know it) after a gang attack and he has kept a firm grip on it ever since. Mox defeated one of his marquee underlings in 10 on the go-home show to Double or Nothing, and even broke his arm with a couple of chairs after Brodie made it clear he was not going to come out and save him.
The funny thing about this feud is that really, Brodie and Moxley have a fair bit in common. They’re both guys that WWE just could not figure out what to do with and didn’t really reach their star potential or have the kinds of matches or characters they wanted back in their old company. When they left WWE for AEW they both described the feeling the same way, akin to getting out of prison. Of course now that they’re here, they’re taking wildly different paths. Moxley the absolute loner and action movie hero. Brodie the leader of his own cult, having graduated from being a follower in WWE.
Beyond that, these two are both renowned brawlers. Brodie Lee of course took his ringname from Bruiser Brody, one of the most heavily respected and feared brawlers of all time and an extremely influential figure for many. Brodie has pretty much promised to steal the show here tonight and prove why he’s worthy of being a main eventer in the first place. I expect the two of them to fight all over the empty – a few wrestlers in the crowd withstanding – arena, basically the kind of match Minoru Suzuki might have which is something Mox knows plenty about. As one of Brodie’s biggest supporters I’m overjoyed to see him in this kind of spotlight already but it’s certainly far from time to take the title off of Moxley. Jon Moxley to retain and get his belt back.
