WWE Friday Night SmackDown is soon at hand. After months of teasing and finally pulling the trigger on a break-up, we now have Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville facing off one-on-one. Here at the Overtimer, as always you can expect an in-depth coverage of the show. That means live results from the show as they come, plus links to detailed recaps of each segment, and of course a preview of everything we can expect to see here this evening. There is way more announced in advance for this show than usual so let’s get to it!
Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville
I feel like I’ve written the recap of this angle a couple of dozen times. I’ll probably write it a few more times from here. That’s okay though, it was certainly one of WWE’s better storylines of the past few years. So I’m glad it’s the one that’s lasted this long. We’ve basically spent the past half a year expecting this match. In fact, the break-up of Fire & Desire was actually rumored even before the Otis and Mandy storyline began this past Fall. It’s actually insane to think it’s been going on that long but the seeds of it go as far as November, and the whole time Sonya Deville has been off-put by it to say the least.
It turns out Sonya’s also always felt as though Mandy was taking all the attention for herself and making the Fire & Desire tag team all about her. She had a funny but also apt line about how the blur effect Mandy used for her entrances meant that you couldn’t even make out Sonya’s face when they came out together. To that end, she decided to pair up with Dolph Ziggler and the two of them conspired to sabotage Mandy’s budding relationship with Otis before it ever got started. But eventually the ruse was found out and now we’re here.
I was really expecting Mandy to end up in the Money In The Bank match, it’s actually kinda stunning to me that neither of these are involved in it now. That means neither need immediate momentum. This feud also definitely won’t end this quickly now that it’s finally started. With Dolph and Otis likely to get involved, I’d be shocked to see a decisive finish no matter what happens. If I have to pick one of them I’ll say Sonya Deville over though honestly I think a non-finish is the most likely thing.
