AEW Dynamite is live once again here tonight! In what looks set to be a gigantic main event, Matt Hardy makes his in-ring debut for AEW, teaming with Kenny Omega in a Street Fight against Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara! Everyone’s tested negative which is of course awesome news in general and also means none of the advertised matches will have to change. Street Fight: Matt Hardy & Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara
Matt Hardy’s arrival to AEW was a huge one and it’s been a lot of fun seeing bits and pieces of his new character, in which he flips back and forth between the all-powerful Damascus and regular ‘ol Matt. But we haven’t seen him wrestle until now. I’d sorta figure he’s the kind of guy you wouldn’t have work too often, both to extend the career and protect his age and injuries, and just because he’s such a wild character that he’s often better utilized in angles and pre-tapes. But that said there’s a definite intrigue to finally seeing him set foot in an AEW ring and he’s doing so in a major match.
Matt teams up with Kenny Omega, one half of the AEW World Tag Team Champions. (His partner Hangman Page having been quarantining for quite some time now.) Together they face off with the leader of the Inner Circle Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara, who every day seems more and more like Chris’ right-hand-man and heir apparent. And they’re not just having any match but a Street Fight! While I’ve been tripped up on this a good few times with Dynamite in the past, there is sincerely no way this one is not the main event.
While on paper it’s relatively even with a slight edge to the babyfaces, given that this is Matt’s debut and he’s going to be having an Elite Deletion battle against Jericho sometime soon, presumably at Double or Nothing, it would seem all too reasonable to give him a big burst of momentum to start with. I would think he pins Sammy Guevara here, someone who has always been able to easily absorb and bounce back from losses to the major players. Matt Hardy over.
