While it might not be the most important championship in WWE, the WWE 24/7 Championship does exist. At Wrestlemania 36, the host of the event would pin R-Truth on Night Two. This would be former New England Pariot tight end, Rob Gronkowski. Having signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Gronkowski is potentially already done with WWE before he would even enter the ring for a match, but he has already made history within the company.
Rob Gronkowski Is The Longest Reigning Champion In The Belts History
While no one should ever touch the record of 35 reigns R-Truth with the 24/7 Championship, Rob Gronkowski has found some history of his own. Due to Wrestlemania being pretaped, Gronkowski is now at 45 days as 24/7 Champion, giving him the longest reign in the belts short history. WWE only recognizes him at 35 days, but the actual number depends on when Wrestlemania was taped. 45 days is the shortest possible reign, but it could be longer. Due to him being off WWE TV already, this reign will only get longer. We don’t know if Gronk will ever return to WWE now that he is back in the NFL. He was expected to make his in-ring debut.
Will He Defend The Title In The NFL?
With him eventually going back to the sport that made him famous, once the quarantine is over, he could defend his title against the entire roster of the NFL. This would certainly make for an interesting part of WWE history.
A tweet from WWE makes reference to this, as they congratulated him on his return to football but then said “Per the rules of the 24/7 Title, Gronk must defend his championship at all times in any location. He could be celebrating a touchdown pass from Tom Brady… anytime, anywhere.”
This could very well be something planned, with one of Gronks Buccaneers teammates will pin him for the championship. It just needs a WWE referee to be ready in the crowd to count the three count. It is just as likely that R-Truth will roll up Gronkowski before this can happen, this belt is truly unpredictable.
Do you think WWE will allow Gronk to defend this title in the NFL? Will R-Truth become a 36 time champion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
