The Monday Night Messiah Finally Adds Character To Seth Rollins In WWE

Seth Rollins has been many people in WWE. He has been the plucky up and comer vying the NXT Championship, the Architect of The Shield, the Golden Boy of The Authority, the Kingslayer, but nowadays he is The Monday Night Messiah. This character has taken him to new popularity as a heel in WWE, and it might be the most important he ever played.

    Finally Showing Character

While he has had numerous different characters, they all roughly just boiled down to ‘I’m a very good wrestler’ at the end of the day. It was the same thing over and over again with a different coat of paint, with Rollins never really changing. This is different with The Monday Night Messiah. While at the start he didn’t seem to change much, only getting more arrogant. That would change with his loss to Drew McIntyre at Money In The Bank has caused him to snap.

He would simply stand on the apron during a tag match the next night with Murphy against Aleister Black & Rey Mysterio. Only when he would be touched by Mysterio he would react. He would be absolutely brutal and look to destroy the eye of Mysterio using the ring steps. Even Murphy felt this was too far, but was scolded to stay away by the man he follows. This is likely the start of a more twisted cult leader version of the Monday Night Messiah, one who wasn’t able to become the leader he wanted to be by his intended methods, and will now become more violent than ever.

Seth Rollins Had To Change Up His Style Eventually

With Rollins no longer able to wrestler like he could pre-knee injury, character work is going to become very important. We have seen this in the past, wrestlers get hurt and are forced to change how they work in the ring to fit a new role. The best example is Stone Cold, who at one point could grapple with the best of them, but after a neck injury at the hands of Owen Hart at Summerslam ’97, he would purely become a brawler who would raise hell.

At Money In The Bank, Rollins still showed up in the ring, he can still wrestle his high impact style, just at a much slower pace. Fans are used to this, as this has been the normal for him since his return in 2016 but he isn’t going to be able to do this forever. As he gets older, character work will have to start to take over. Do you think Rollins needs to continue to have a focus on his character like he did on this past episode of Monday Night RAW? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
