On Smackdown Live, Matt Riddle would make an instant splash. His first night on the brand, he’d pin former WWE Champion and current Intercontential Champion AJ Styles. This wouldn’t lead to a title shot at this time, and it seems his first feud on the main roster will be with King Corbin. Two heavy hitters, Corbin & Riddle should have an incredible match, but Corbin doesn’t seem to be happy about this according to reports.
King Corbin Is Sick Of Being The Gatekeeper
Alongside Dolph Ziggler, Corbin has begun to fill the role of a main roster gatekeeper. He’s a popular pick for a first feud when someone comes out of NXT, due to him being a very reliable worker who makes people look good. Beating the man who retired Kurt Angle is a boost to someones career in WWE’s eyes, which certainly helps. He will play this role once again, this time for Matt Riddle.
However, according to reports, Corbin was not too happy with this. He would insist that Riddle should have faced five enhancement talents and be built up more before facing him.
There is a way for WWE to have this happen. Putting him against 24/7 Champion Akira Tozawa and his Ninjas in a cinematic segment, and having Riddle drop five of them, before having a stand off with the giant ninja would be great. It would be a great way to show the humor chops of Riddle, which is a vital aspect of his character.
Corbin Messing With The Press
While you can imagine being put into a feud with someone who will jump the line ahead of him again would get frusturating, this is too in character for Corbin to not be him messing with people. It shows the charisma that Corbin has when not working with a script, something that should be used more. He’s shown in the past with his time on Talking Smack, or when he infamously yelled at Apollo Crews to go back to Ring Of Honor during a match back in NXT.
