Fans of Lucha Underground will remember the monster that was Mil Muertes. Throughout season one of that show, he was the big evil of the show, a dominant lucha libre monster. He had some incredible matches with the likes of Rey Fenix, but his run in Lucha Underground was his only notable one.
Now 45 years old, and having suffered several injuries, he’s looking for one last grasp at the spotlight outside of Mexico. He wants a run in All Elite Wrestling to cap off a storied career.
A Potential Use Of The AAA Partnership
While we haven’t seen much use of AAA talents outside of people like Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr, there is a clear link. Between Kenny Omega as AAA Mega Champion, and men like Laredo Kid having made their way to the company in the past as well. Mil Muertes also works there, and he could try to use that link to get into AEW.
Mil Muertes Could Use The TNT Open Challenge To Debut
After showing his interest in working with AEW through an Instagram video, several theories on how to work him into the picture of the company. They’re building a great hoss division with men like Brian Cage, Butcher, Wardlow, Lance Archer, Brodie Lee and Luchasarus where Mil Muertes would fit in perfectly. A great way to bring him in and make sure he feels like a big deal is just have him answer the open challenge of Cody Rhodes for the TNT Championship.
Even if he loses that match, he would enter in a major title match which is as good as you can ask for for a debut. We could also see him come in as a challenger of Kenny Omega for his AAA Mega Championship. Omega hasn’t defended this championship since he faced Sammy Guevara a few months ago, so a defense is overdue. Under the ring name El Mesias, he has held this title four times, with his last reign ending in 2012. He has precident with that championship, and could be a perfect match for Omega.
