WWE Smackdown Preview (7/24) – Bar Fight - Jeff Hardy Vs. Sheamus

WWE Smackdown is going to host its first Bar Fight between Jeff Hardy and Sheamus in what may or may not be the final installment of this feud.

This is Sheamus’ latest attempt to “help” Jeff Hardy face his demons but putting him in a room of temptation following Jeff appearing on Miz TV

In fact, this idea can be traced back to the Miz for saying Jeff needed a rematch someplace other than a ring, and so Sheamus then offered the idea of a bar fight.

    Hopefully the end

While many of us would’ve loved to see this match on Extreme Rules, it will serve as a nice bridge following the pay-per-view as the WWE starts to lay the groundwork for their next pay-per-view, SummerSlam.

In this case, we hope this will be the definitive end to Jeff and Sheamus’ feud as it’s gone on too long already.

Since returning, Sheamus has been booked as a disgruntled bully while WWE Smackdown already has a bully in King Corbin. And the way they’ve used Jeff’s real life issues is about as bad as low as they can go.

At this point, it really doesn’t serve a point for Jeff to fight Sheamus in a bar scene, but they’re doing it.

We get they’re playing the angle of overcoming one’s demons, but this just feels wrong and too drawn out.

With any luck, this will be the last confrontation between the two in this feud.

    Jeff is leaving soon

Rumors are swirling that Jeff’s contract is up in the next couple of months and this could be seen as punishment for not resigning. The fact both Matt and Jeff’s contracts were supposed to end at the same time plays into this thought process.

It was expected that both brothers would jump to AEW, but because of Jeff’s injury, Vince McMahon added the time he was out to the end of his contract. It’s standard for the WWE to do this, so nothing new here.

What is interesting is if this is meant as a punishment, which doesn’t seem out of the norm, then we can expect Jeff to lose and be humiliated. Maybe even have the feud continue as it falls from being WWE Smackdown’s best storyline.

There is the reasonable thought that Jeff is onboard with this whole idea as he reportedly enjoys the attention and the WWE wouldn’t make a profit off this kind of storyline anymore since they’re in the PG Era.

Of course, things like Jeff throwing his urine in Sheamus’ face is Attitude Era style is often ignored, but it’s definitely an edgier brand of television that what the PG Era generally produces.

While we hope Jeff is onboard, the fact the WWE made $177 million during the lockdown due to TV contracts and without paying fans kinda counters that claim, but there are always other variables.

Either way, we hope they do right by Jeff and this has a satisfying ending for everyone involved.

Will Jeff of Sheamus win on WWE Smackdown? Let us know in the comments.
