We’ve been waiting to find out what happened following King Corbin’s attack on Matt Riddle on last week’s WWE Smackdown, and tonight should clear things up.
Last week, Riddle challenged AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Championship. After a great match, Styles managed to pull out the win while putting Riddle over.
To be honest, Riddle dominated the match with Styles barely surviving.
Afterwards, Styles offered his hand out of respect, and that’s when Corbin attacked.
Aftermath of Corbin’s assault
After being welcoming to a group hug and celebration, there’s little doubt the WWE is putting everything they have behind pushing Riddle as Smackdown’s top face.
In fact, whenever he’s expected on the show, Michael Cole mentions him nearly every segment.
So, we expect Riddle to come out to the ring to speak his mind following a brief backstage interview.
Once in the ring, he’ll go on about Corbin being cowardly by attacking him the way he had, and he may bring up Styles as being part of it and not warning him.
This feels more like it’ll be an angle that’s be in Style’s next feud, though, so chances are Riddle will give Styles some semblance of a pass.
But as Riddle speaks his mind, we can expect Corbin to come out and a scuffle will probably ensue.
Building for SummerSlam
We doubt there’ll be a match, at least not between Corbin and Riddle, as that isn’t WWE’s standard procedure.
Instead, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a tag match of sorts or and constant running through the halls type of ambush segment scattered throughout the show.
There’s a lot of ground to cover to close out things with other feuds and to start building for there to be much more than this.
Still, we expect Riddle to best Corbin tonight and Corbin will do his usually gang assault/humiliation tactics the next few weeks to create heat going into SummerSlam.
This has the potential to be a fun feud, but we also think it’ll follow previous Corbin feuds where he’ll have his helpers, Miz and Morrison, nearby.
It won’t surprise us if Shorty G or Drew Gulak gets involved somehow, and if there is a tag match like we mentioned earlier. In this case, don’t be surprised if it’s Matt Riddle and Shorty G vs. Miz and Morrison.
After Riddle and Shorty G/Gulak’s win, Corbin will attack Riddle and some fun mayhem will ensue and carry to the backstage area.
