At one point in WWE, Rusev Day was the most over thing around. Rusev alone was incredibly popular, but once he was paired with Aiden English? There was something magic here. They were selling merch like crazy, and crowds would be loudly chanting ‘Rusev Day’, even when neither man was on screen.
Unfortunately, this was never cashed in on, as their partnership was tragically short and they never even won the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. Aiden English & Rusev were both released from WWE back in April, and have yet to resurface in another wrestling promotion.
Aiden English Feels His Relationship With Rusev Could Have Lasted MUCH Longer
While on the Fightful podcast to talk about his ‘Wrestling With Whiskey’ project, he would be asked about other topics. Naturally Rusev Day came up during this talk, and English would lament it ending when it did.
“Absolutely. We all thought so. We wanted to ride that thing until the wheels fell off. I really thought we could have had something. I said this before. I’m not going to besmirch them at all but I thought of it akin to a New Day type of thing, Like, here are these guys with a super over the top characters. They came in and were heels but they were so entertaining they became babyfaces and had longevity. While I thought, while not the same thing, here we are presented as these bad guys, but people are into our act. Maybe we could bounce back and forth as time goes on. I think there was longevity here. We both really wish it would have been able to have a longer life.”
This is echoing what fans were saying when this duo was broken up, with the breakup angle falling flat and not even leading to a PPV match. Both men floundered following the breakup, until they’d both be released from the company. Maybe one day, in another company, we can see Rusev & Aiden English team up once again and meet their full potential.
