2020 has been such a wild year for professional wrestling, that most will have already forgotten that Goldberg had a brief run with the Universal Championship again. He would be the one to finally give The Fiend a loss, and was set to face Roman Reigns for the championship at Wrestlemania.
This wouldn’t happen as Reigns backed out of WWE due to safety concerns at the last moment, and he would instead be defeated by Braun Strowman. We likely won’t be seeing him again until 2021, but there will be more matches involving Goldberg in the future.
Goldberg Is Signed With WWE Through 2023
While on an episode of The Pop Culture Show, Goldberg would give some insight into his WWE contract status.
“I am contracted with the WWE for the next two years through 2022, ’23. I’ve got two matches per year. I’ve exhausted my limit this year quite early on April the fifth with WrestleMania under these really weird circumstances. But I’ve got a couple other extremely interesting projects right on the cusp, but as you guys know in the entertainment business right now everything’s on hold unless it’s a production of 10 or under pretty much. We got a lot of cool things that people are going to find out about pretty soon. My WWE commitment is still going strong. At 53, I never would’ve imagined especially after making fun of Flair when he was doing it in his early 40s.”
He has gotten his two matches in for 2020, which is the perfect amount of Goldberg per year.
The Roman Reigns Match Will Likely Happen Eventually
As previously mentioned, Goldberg was set to face off with Roman Reigns at this year’s Wrestlemania, before Reigns backed out. This was a match that WWE was pushing very hard, and could have been the match to close out the show had Wrestlemania not become a two night event.
Given how much WWE wanted the ‘Battle of The Spears’ to happen, we can reasonably expect to see this match sometime in the next few years. It is a big match, and something that could easily be a spectacle.
Who do you want to see Goldberg face in his coming matches? Is two matches a year a perfect amount of Goldberg? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
