Next week on AEW Dynamite, the AEW World Heavyweight Champion will be in action. In a tune up match for his match with MJF at All Out, he will face Mark Sterling. This is the storyline lawyer of MJF, and this match is expected to be a worse beating than Brodie Lee vs. Cody Rhodes.
If Sterling doesn’t show up for this match, MJF doesn’t get his title match, but while he’s outmatched against Moxley, he’s actually an experienced professional wrestler. He’s actually got more experience than Jon Moxley, but has failed to reach the same heights.
Mark Sterling Is A Nineteen Year Pro
While his career as an undefeated lawyer isn’t exactly well documented, ‘Smart’ Mark Sterling has nineteen years within the ring. While his stint in AEW is his first time in the spotlight, he’s held numerous championships for small companies over his long career. He’s held titles for the National Wrestling Alliance, Metro Pro Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling Phoenix.
He’s beaten men like Tommy Dreamer, and has gone head to head with champions like ACH. Sterling has a much more impressive career than you would think given his portrayal on AEW, where he makes Lionel Hutz look like the best lawyer ever. Regardless of his experience, outside of heavy interference from MJF & Wardlow? Moxley is going to drop him on his head as many times as he pleases.
AEW Fans Want Him To Stick Around Going Forward
While we might not see Sterling in the ring often for AEW, fans have been absolutely loving his current on-screen role. He’s cashed in and has been selling T-Shirts aplenty off his newfound fame. A sleazy lawyer threatening to sue his clients opponents is a great gimmick, and one that can be used in creative ways going forward.
Even if he’s just a recurring character like anger management expert Doctor Shelby in WWE, Mark Sterling is someone fans want to see again after he’s drug to and out of the ring next Wednesday.
Are you surprised that Sterling has a long career in professional wrestling? Do you want to see him stick around in AEW? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
