While the Royal Rumble might still be several months away, making things hard to predict at best, it’s never too early to get excited about one of WWE’s best annual events. It’s a night which can make anyone into a star if they can survive 29 other men, but winners are often not hard to spot in the field. They are the men who are already on their way, or have previously been in the main event.
Last year, Drew McIntyre won and would go on to defeat Brock Lesnar to become WWE Champion, something which made him into a star. Here are three men who could be on a similar course in 2021, the way too early picks to walk away from the Royal Rumble with a ticket to Wrestlemania.
Is It Going To Be Time To Bask In The Glory Of Keith Lee?
When you knock off Randy Orton on PPV just a week after your WWE debut, it’s clear they have big plans for you. Ever since Keith Lee stood toe to toe with Roman Reigns last year at Survivor Series, his path in WWE has been crystal clear. He is going right to the top of the company, and that could start in 2021 with another good showing in the Royal Rumble. This year, he stood tall against Brock Lesnar, another defining moment in his WWE run, but could he be the one left standing in 2021?
If he wins, we could see him head to Smackdown Live for an awaited one on one match with Roman Reigns, something both men expressed interest in after their clash at Survivor Series. This would give WWE another much needed top babyface, and Roman Reigns some serious competition for Wrestlemania.
Aleister Black Is One Win Away From Being A Superstar
There are few men in WWE more alluring than Aleister Black. He’s able to take anyone out with a single kick, has taken men like Seth Rollins & AJ Styles to their limits, and has found his rhythm on Monday Night RAW with a recent heel turn. Black has also become a favorite backstage in WWE, with rumors swirling earlier this year that it was a toss up between Black & McIntyre as the winner of the 2020 Royal Rumble.
McIntyre was chosen over Black, simply as he was more established as a main event player on Monday Night RAW. Now, Black is getting to that same level, and could very well win the 2021 Royal Rumble, and go on to Wrestlemania to face Drew McIntyre. It’s a big matchup WWE has kept in their back pocket, and one that could make Black into a major player going forward.
Big E Has Waited Long Enough For This Chance
For years now, WWE has been quietly building up Big E for a singles run. As part of The New Day, Big E has become wildly popular amongst fans, churning out excellent matches alongside Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston against teams like The Usos & The Bar. Now with Kingston & Woods injured, Big E is getting that singles run fans have been asking for.
He’s been sidelined in his storyline with Sheamus, seemingly to save his eventual Universal Championship match for further down the road. While Kingston & Woods might be back come Royal Rumble season, we could still see Big E be the last one standing at the end of that match, and headed to Wrestlemania for the biggest match of his life.
