For some reason, William Regal let Fandango set up a match for NXT. With four teams looking to face Breezango at NXT Takeover, he had a unique idea. Tonight, Danny Burch tags with Roderick Strong, and Fabian Aichner tags with Raul Mendoza, and whichever mismatched team wins this one? They’ll face each other next week, and the winner of that match gets Breezango. Makes enough sense to me!
We Might Never See This Match Again
This match might be a bit odd, but it is certainly a first time match. Action started with Aichner & Strong, Aichner getting the upper hand, and tagging in Mendoza. Strong would tag in Burch, and Burch would be happy to get his hands on a member of Legado Del Fantasma after their issues on 205 Live.
Burch would go for the missile dropkick on Mendoza, but Aichner made the save as we went to a commercial break. Coming back from the break, Aichner had Burch in the middle of the ring, but Burch fought his way out, only to be dropped with a belly to back suplex. Mendoza was tagged in, and Burch was getting isolated from his corner.
Mendoza would continue to keep Burch away from Strong, and the moment Burch found an opening? Aichner had taken Strong off the apron, but this didn’t keep the Pace Man of Undisputed Era down. He’d get the tag, and hit the ring and clean house, nearly getting End of Heartache on Fabian Aichner. Mendoza would get tagged in, and take some control, but a knee from Strong stunned him, allowing Burch to hit a cutter off the top rope for the win.
So What Comes Next?
If we’re understanding Fandangos plan, this means that soon we will see Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch face Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish in a #1 contenders match. Strong & Fish were set to face Dain & Maverick originally tonight, but plans likely changed due to a breakout of COVID-19 in the NXT locker room changing plans. Companies need to be quick on their feet, and this match was clearly rushed together for the show.
