At NXT Takeover 31, we will see Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott get another chance to become the NXT Cruiserweight Champion. He’s the only man in NXT, in all of WWE to have beaten Santos Escobar. However, their previous match ended with a headbutt from a loaded luchador mask, something which didn’t sit well with Swerve. He’d go ahead and pin Escobar again in a six man tag team match, and now it’s time to have their biggest match yet, as they finally take this championship to NXT Takeover.
Santos Escobar Promises To End Swerve
The champion and challenger would meet in a joint interview ahead of their match at NXT Takeover 31, where Santos Escobar promises a fair fight. Swerve has a hard time believing this, and calls him out on Legado Del Fantasma interference and the loaded luchador mask being all that kept Escobar as champion.
Escobar claims Swerve just has excuses, and when it really matters he can’t deliver, proven by his loss in their previous match. Swerve feels his excuses are the reality of the situation, and that he is adaptable as they come. He is going to show the world what he’s truly capable of, and he’s going to expose Santos Escobar as a fraud of a champion this Sunday.
Santos Escobar says he will fail to beat him, as he’s built this division around him, and ingrained the lucha libre traditions, which Swerve disrespects. He’s going to bury Swerve with that tradition, if it’s the last thing he does.
Should This Be A Two Out Of Three Falls Match?
With Santos Escobar basing his indenity around the deep culture of lucha libre, there is one step further he should take. Generally down in Mexico, matches are held under two out of three falls rules, something that sinks deep into the culture that he preaches.
NXT has a great history with this match type dating back to Sami Zayn vs. Cesaro, and a match like Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott vs. Santos Escobar with the time that would provide would be a show stealing match. While NXT Takeover events will often be a time crunch at the best of time, keeping action tight, this would be a great way to truly show everyone what the NXT Cruiserweight division is made of.
Will Swerve finally claim the NXT Cruiserweight Championship at NXT Takeover 31, or will Santos Escobar show he’s just a choke artist? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
