After an assist from Jon Moxley who took Kenny Omega out, Chris Jericho, Santana & Ortiz had handed The Elite a major loss. However, it was only the start of what would become something very special in All Elite Wrestling.
Had things gone to plan, this would have been a match between The Elite & another Bullet Club trio. This would have been AJ Styles & The Good Brothers, but contacts didn’t pan out in AEW’s favor, instead we got a group lead by Chris Jericho. The Inner Circle.
Chris Jericho Needed Some Backup To Secure A Long AEW Championship Reign
Coming into this match, Jericho already had two badasses in his corner, with Santana & Ortiz. Earlier in this show, he seemed to buddy up with Sammy Guevara who’d just taken Cody Rhodes to his limits in the opening match of the evening. They’d soak in the victory, briefly, before keeping the beatdown of The Young Bucks going.
Cody would rush down to the ring to make the save, and get revenge for the beatdown he got from Jericho earlier in the night, but it’d be three on one. Sammy Guevara would come to the ring, and boot Rhodes in the nuts, showing he’s really with Jericho afterall. Dustin Rhodes would come to even the odds this time, hitting some signature blows and returning the low blow to Guevara.
Jake Hager Completes The Inner Circle
Just when things were looking good for The Elite, the former Jack Swagger in WWE would hit the ring. Now under the name Jake Hager, he built up a reputation for being a badass asskicker in Bellator MMA, and was here in AEW. He’d slam Dustin Rhodes into the mat, before running down The Elite, and nailing a Hager Bomb on Cody Rhodes.
This new group would pile the bodies of their victims, and stand strong. Chris Jericho, Santana, Ortiz, Sammy Guevara and Jake Hager, certainly a powerful group. They’d grab the ring bell podium, and Dustin Rhodes would be smashed onto it.
AEW might have been built by The Elite, but they would end their first show on TV beaten down. Cody would be sent into a Judas Effect, and they would stand tall. Chris Jericho had his Inner Circle, and they’re still standing tall to this very day.
