Over the past year, AEW Dynamite has been a smash hit. It’s gotten acclaim from wrestling fans, brought an in-ring focused product back to network TV, and has gotten fine ratings along the way. Because of this, it is only a matter of time before another hour was added to their schedule.
Cody Rhodes Clarifies What The Third Hour Means
During an interview with TVInsider, Rhodes would be asked about the long discussed ‘third hour of AEW’. “We know that this third hour is going to present itself soon. And I don’t mean a third hour of Dynamite. I mean a separate hour on a WarnerMedia network. We’ll be able to diversify and freshen up the content on a regular basis.”
While AEW Dark exists as an extra show for AEW every single week, this new show would likely take a role similar to that of the Late Night Dynamite special. That special got some great acclaim, containing three matches, so hype for the next episode of Dynamite, and it all flowed very well as an extra part of AEW Dynamite.
As The AEW Roster Grows, More Time Is Needed
Even when AEW Dynamite made its debut, there still wasn’t enough time to properly showcase the roster they built. Since then, they’ve only grown. They’ve brought in more names, names they had at the start have grown, and none have really shrunk in importance. AEW likes their ten to fifteen minute matches on TV, and that puts them in a tricky spot.
While AEW Dark gives a lot of chances for wrestlers to gain some extra skill and wins, it’s a show that not all AEW fans watch. If you only watch Dynamite, you miss character development for people like Shawn Spears, Scorpio Sky, Peter Avalon & Brandon Cutler, stuff that isn’t recapped. Having another show that people actually watch will be exactly what these men need, and that’s not mentioning the extra help that this would give to let their women’s division grow.
