The headline match of G1 Climax 30 Night 7 saw current Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed Heavyweight Champion and CHAOS member Will Ospreay face former IWGP Heavyweight, IWGP Intercontinental, IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion, and Bullet Club member “Switchblade” Jay White.
Jay White is coming off a victory over former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and CHAOS member Kazuchika Okada while Ospreay dropped his G1 Climax Night 5 match to former NEVER Openweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Shingo Takagi.
The last time Switchblade and Ospreay met was during the 47 Anniversary Show on March 6, 2019. Jay White defeated Ospreay in 29 minutes and 7 seconds that night.
Switchblade relied on his mind games to get inside Ospreay’s head at the beginning of the match, a tactic that has become a staple of he and Kenta within Bullet Club. However, once the match got underway it became a contest of those wanting to take command of the A Block.
Per usual, Switchblade showed that he is more than just a wrestler who plays mental games in the ring — giving Opsreay a number of questions to answer throughout the match. Yet, Ospreay was up to his challenge throughout the contest.
Ospreay would gain the fall over Switchblade at the 18 minutes and 46 seconds mark to take his G1 Climax 30 record to 3-1, matching that of the defeated Jay White’s.
The result makes it likely that both wrestlers will remain in the hunt to advance to the G1 Climax 30 Finals until late in the tournament. Jay White is banking on the G1 to secure his path back towards the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, while Ospreay is moving to secure his position as a major heavyweight contender within New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).
Ospreay’s victory gives him the tiebreaker over Jay White if the two are to finish block action in a tie.
